Larry (KSToken) has agreed to help us figure out our mavericks. He said he would be happy to look at some pics of our unknown mavericks and tell us where they are from. If he can. He is really good at it so let's try to stump him.
FYI - a maverick is a token that has no information on it that provides proof of where it was issued. ie. city or state
About identifying maverick tokens. For me the most important thing is having piece of mind that the attribution is correct. That’s why I never try to identify pieces with just initials on them or generic names. I can find listings for 50 different "Commodore Bar's ". Jeff and I have gone round and round about “The Pioneer Bar " tokens from Caney Kansas. Yes the building still has the name "Pioneer Bar” painted on its side. The problem I have is they we have at least 4 different types of tokens probably made by 4 different companies for the “Pioneer Bar ". Which is correct? I'd rather throw one out as to misidentify 3 others.
The token here is such a maverick I cannot be sure of its attribution.
Always look for mavericks that can be identified. Remember we use Business directories to attribute tokens. I always think about how the name on the token would be listed in the phone book. Last name first, first name (or first initial), then middle initial. Then if your lucky an address. Maybe even a phone number. I always do a quick search using references I have accumulated over the past 30 years. Then I list the token in my maverick list just as I would if I where listing it in the phone book. Then as I find more reference material I can bump my maverick list agents the new material without many problems.
Keep listing your mavericks and I will keep trying to find them homes.
